Lakers Nation 2012-13 Player Evaluations: Robert Sacre

NBA: Los Angeles Lakers at Houston RocketsComing into the preseason there weren’t many expectations for rookie Robert Sacre. The opportunity for him to play seemed slim-to-none simply due to the fact that the Lakers frontcourt was stacked at the power-forward and center positions. However due to a few injuries to some key players, Sacre got some playing time during the season and showed that he had some potential to become a solid player in the NBA.

Regular Season Grade: B

When Dwight Howard went down with a torn labrum in January, Sacre was given the opportunity to start at center for a few games. In that span of games in which Dwight was out, the rookie did an excellent job holding down the fort. The numbers may not indicate that he played particularly well, but he played excellent defense and gave a full effort every minute he played, which is all you ask out of a rookie.

Sacre found himself at the end of the bench cheering (in Ronny Turiaf fashion)  for teammates rather than playing. Regardless of that, he owned that responsibility with pride. He enjoyed supporting his teammates and made the most of his minutes when they were given.

Playoff Grade: Pass

There isn’t much that can be used to critique Sacre in regards to the playoffs because he played four total minutes in the entire postseason. However, his support for his teammates is something that fans always noticed. He never let the fact that he didn’t play stop him from being a good teammate, which is something that he should be recognized for.

Overall Grade: B

There wasn’t much to be seen from Robert Sacre on the basketball court in the 2012-2013 season, but he became a fan-favorite over the course of the year because of his energy and passion. His future with the Lakers is definitely in question. He doesn’t know whether or not management will pick up his qualifying offer, but his display of being appreciative of the opportunity to be Laker could be favorable for him in looking toward his status for next season.
