Lakers Nation Bids Farewell, Thank You to Derek Fisher

Although the NBA is a business and the front office has to make moves to better the team, whenever a class-act player gets traded, it hits the heart. The Los Angeles Lakers have just traded Derek Fisher to the Houston Rockets for Jordan Hill, someone who won five titles with the franchise.

Fisher was not just an ordinary bench player who racked up rings by watching Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal take over games. He constantly hit big shots for the team and although he did not score the most points, he was on the floor when they game mattered the most for a reason.

Throughout his career, Fisher made clutch shots and often helped the team’s stars finish out games in the fourth quarter. Whether it was in the regular season or in Game 7 of the NBA Finals, the coaching staff trusted Fisher with the ball in his hands.

However, the bond Kobe Bryant had with Derek Fisher was what made his presence on the team so special. The fact that these two players came into the league as rookies and fought through so many battles was quite touching. They won five titles together and trusted each other no matter what. Their relationship on the court was evident and even though Fisher was getting a little old, seeing him with Kobe was always refreshing.

The entire Lakers Nation would like to thank Derek Fisher for all the great memories he brought the team. Lakers fans will always remember Fisher and his .04 shot against the San Antonio Spurs. There was also a time when Fisher took over Game 4 of the NBA Finals when the Lakers were playing the Orlando Magic. And most recently, Fisher sparked the Lakers in Game 7 of the 2010 Finals en route to beating the arch rival Boston Celtics.

Derek Fisher will start another chapter in his life, and it seems as though it will be the final one in his NBA career. It was  expected that Fisher would end his career as a Laker, but as the saying goes, ‘all good things must come to an end.’
