Although there’s still a few weeks left in the season, that hasn’t stopped people from looking toward the summer. The Lakers have a lot of uncertainty surrounding their roster as they enter the offseason. The team has an intriguing core of young players, but none of them have stood out as future All-Stars like Karl-Anthony Towns or Joel Embiid have.
Jeanie Buss recently said that she would be sick to her stomach if the Lakers don’t have an All-Star on their roster next season. Unfortunately, it’s likely the only way that will happen is if the Lakers trade for a current All-Star or sign one in free agency. None of the young core seems ready to make that kind of leap in just one season.
Buss’ comments could be taken as a sign of what’s to come this offseason. The Lakers seem ready to go all-in on trading for a superstar. With both Paul George and Jimmy Butler potentially on the market, it will be interesting to see if the Lakers are able to find a package for either without completely gutting their youth.
