Lakers Nation Reacts: Should The Lakers Amnesty Metta World Peace?

The news has come down that the Lakers are considering using their amnesty provision on popular forward Metta World Peace, a move that would save the Lakers $15 million towards salary cap and luxury tax payments.

In the midst of this announcement, some have questioned whether this is the best move for the Lakers, the most notable being Kobe Bryant. So we decided to ask Lakers Nation if they felt like the Lakers should amnesty or keep World Peace in the fold:

Overwhelmingly Lakers Nation wants World Peace in a Lakers uniform, as 82 percent is a strong indication of their love for the eccentric World Peace.

Metta did bump up his scoring to over 12 points per game last season while leading the Lakers in 3-pointers made and hitting an acceptable 34 percent from beyond the arc while still providing the toughness and heart that he has been known for throughout his career.

This has been one of the most interesting summers in recent Laker history. After the departure of Dwight Howard to the Houston Rockets, the Lakers have begun to fill out the roster agreeing to terms with free agents Chris Kaman and Jordan Farmar, are in talks to possibly bring back Lamar Odom, and drafted a perfect fit for Coach Mike D’Antoni’s offense in Ryan Kelly.

Another problem with possibly amnestying Metta is the fact that the Lakers have no other small forwards on the roster. The only other person who could possibly play the position is Kobe Bryant himself and he would no doubt struggle guarding the larger small forwards of today such as LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Paul George, and Carmelo Anthony.

Ever since he donned the purple and gold Metta has been one of the most popular players on the team as some of the loudest crowd roars come from huge Metta 3-pointers or vicious dunks. This poll just serves as more evidence to Lakers Nation’s adoration of him.
