Lakers Nation Reacts: Will Dwight Howard Return To The Lakers?

NBA: Houston Rockets at Los Angeles LakersWith NBA Free Agency a little over a month away and Dwight Howard’s commitment to the Lakers in question, it is going to be interesting to see what happens when free agency officially kicks-off for qualified players on July 1st.

Dwight Howard has reportedly gained some interest in a few teams outside of the Lakers (Warriors, Mavericks, Rockets), and has hinted that he is very open to leaving Los Angeles to pursue his dream of winning an NBA title.

Because of the Lakers’ poor season and his concerns with current Lakers head coach Mike D’Antoni, it isn’t far-fetched to think that Dwight may bolt come July, even with 30-million dollars potentially at stake.

Today, we polled Lakers Nation and asked whether or not Dwight will return to the Los Angeles Lakers. Here are the results:

In the poll, 56 percent believed that Dwight Howard is more likely to leave the Lakers this off-season due to the terrible season that the Lakers had and his lack of confidence in Mike D’Antoni. Regardless of the Lakers’ history of producing great big men and their ability to put a winning team on the court, the majority of fans in this poll still feel that won’t be enough to convince Dwight Howard to stay.

The 44 percent that voted in favor of Dwight Howard staying feel that the let down of this past season was just an anomaly and that Dwight will be understanding of that. Dwight is in a great situation here in Los Angeles, and the Lakers have made it known that they will commit to him for the present and the future. To the fans that think he’ll stay, they obviously feel that the clout and history of the Lakers will persuade Dwight that remaining a Laker is ultimately the best thing for him.

It will be compelling to see what happens come July 1st. Howard’s decision can be one of the most important events for the Lakers moving forward with Kobe Bryant playing in what could be his last season.
