Lakers Nation Week In Review: Oct. 27 – Nov. 3

The Los Angeles Lakers got their much anticipated 2012-13 season underway this past week and their pursuit of a 17th franchise championship got underway. After a summer full of change including the acquisitions of Dwight Howard and Steve Nash, the Lakers became title contenders almost overnight.

The hype surrounding the team is quite amazing and everyone has expected great things out of Los Angeles. However, the opening week has not gone well for the Lakers and it is taking time for the players to get adjusted to each other. The new offensive system is running smoother than expected, but at this point defense is the biggest concern for the coaching staff.

The first week for the Lakers may not have went as planned, but nevertheless, it was another busy seven days here at Lakers Nation.

Lakers Nation Game Recaps:

The Los Angeles Lakers began their 2012-13 season at the Staples Center against the Dallas Mavericks. Mavs star Dirk Nowitzki did not play in the game, but that did not stop the team from giving it all they had on the court. The Lakers were definitely the most talented team, but they fell in a shocker in front of their home fans. Despite the advantage on paper, and in particular the front-line, the Lakers ended up losing their first regular season game, 97-91.

In their second game of the 2012-13 campaign, the Lakers headed north to the Rose Garden to play the Portland Trail Blazers. The Lakers often times have trouble playing the Blazers in Portland and this game was no different. The Blazers made it a priority to beat the Lakers in the fast break and the explosive team did just that. Los Angeles played horrendously on the defensive end and lost their second consecutive regular season game, 116-106.

In the first battle of Los Angeles in the 2012-13 season, the Clippers edged the Lakers and handed them their third consecutive loss. Kobe Bryant made history in the game by becoming the Lakers’ all-time leader in steals and ended up scoring 40 points on the night. However, without Steve Nash the Lakers were short-handed and lost 105-95.
