Although the Lakers are struggling through another rough season, there have been some bright spots from the young core. Julius Randle, D’Angelo Russell and Brandon Ingram have all shown the potential to lead the Lakers back to relevance. While their growth is to be expected, the Lakers have also seen better than expected growth from rookie Ivica Zubac.
Zubac has spent time back and forth between the Lakers and D-Fenders, where he has dominated, this season. Head coach Luke Walton has recently given Zubac a chance in the rotation. The first year big man has responded with averages of 9.0 points, 7.6 rebounds and 1.4 blocks over the last five games.
After his impressive last few games, Walton has hinted that Zubac could become a part of the rotation on a permanent basis. As the Lakers continue to dwindle in the standings, developing their young players should be a priority for the Lakers.
