With the NBA trade deadline fast approaching, many are wondering if the Lakers will chase the playoffs or settle with developing the young core. The Lakers are only five games back of the eight seed at the half way point, but equally as close to being in the top three of the lottery.
While chasing the playoffs seems like a Laker thing to do, especially since the team hasn’t sniffed the postseason since 2013, it appears the Lakers will sit tight. According to reports, the Lakers are unwillingly to include any of their young core in trade discussions.
The Lakers have basically nothing else to offer than their young, developing stars. It’s probably the right decision to continue to build the young core around first year head coach Luke Walton. However, Laker fans will have to be patient for at least another year.
