After entering the season with low expectations, no one expected the Los Angeles Lakers to be where they are. After 12 games, the Lakers sit two games above .500 with a record of 7-5. If the NBA playoffs were able to start today, the Lakers would be a No. 7 seed in the Western Conference.
The most surprising part of this season is how well the team has played as a whole. They have signature wins over the Golden State Warriors, Houston Rockets, and Atlanta Hawks, but more importantly, have done what good NBA teams do: beat teams with sub .500 records. Against those teams, the Lakers are 4-2.
While the season has gotten off to a blistering start, the schedule is about to toughen up. Seven of the next eight games for the Lakers are against teams with above .500 records, including a back-to-back set against the Warriors. The combined record for of those six teams is 43-19.
We’re going to know a lot more about this team in two weeks.
