While it hasn’t officially been announced by the NBA, the Miami Heat and Brooklyn Nets will wear nickname jerseys in at least one of the four matchups. The new uniforms that will debut this season has created division among the players. Ray Allen feels like this shows growth in the NBA and its ability to adapt with the times. However, Kendall Marshall believes it sends the wrong message by promoting individuals instead of the actual team.
While there will continue to be division among the players and fans, it’s likely all teams including the Lakers will sport the nickname jerseys. It will be interesting to see what nicknames the Lakers players will pick. Kobe Bryant has numerous nicknames, but will likely choose between “Black Mamba” or “Vino.” However, most of the players on the Lakers this season don’t have well-known nicknames.
