Lakers News: Bynum Not Interested in Olympics

Los Angeles Lakers center Andrew Bynum has his focus more on becoming an All-Star than a member of the USA Olympic team, writes Mike Bresnahan of the Los Angeles Times.

“I haven’t been thinking about it,” Bynum told The Times. “It’s definitely something that’s a great honor to do and all that, but for me right now, the health of my knees and stuff like that — I don’t know if long summers are the best thing for me.”

Bynum is having a terrific season so far with the Lakers and has emerged as one of the top two NBA centers. So far this season, Bynum has averaged 17.9 points per game and 14.6 rebounds per game  and recorded his first career 20-20 game.

Still, he has never made an All-Star team and would likely be playing back-up minutes to Dwight Howard if he joins USA’s team.

Team USA has yet to reach out to Bynum and is expected to announce the 18 finalists in about two weeks.
