Lakers News: Byron Scott To Represent Team At NBA Draft Lottery

Byron Scott

At this point it is no secret how important this summer will be for the Los Angeles Lakers. The first important date for the team is May 19, which is when the NBA Draft Lottery takes place and the team finds out where their top-five protected pick will land.

Each team in the lottery sends a representative and who would be representing the Lakers was a question mark. However, general manager Mitch Kupchak revealed to Fred Roggin on The Beast 980 that head coach Byron Scott would be representing the Lakers at the lottery:

Hopefully, Scott will bring the Lakers more luck than last season. Hall of Famer and Time Warner Cable SportsNet analyst James Worthy represented the Lakers as they dropped one spot, from six to seven, thanks to the Cleveland Cavaliers jumping up to win the lottery.

This year the stakes are much higher as the Lakers lose their pick if it falls out of the top five. Scott’s job as a head coach will be much tougher next season if the Lakers fail to keep this pick so he would be wise to bring whatever good luck charms he has.

Longtime Lakers fan Flea, of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, had previously offered his services of representing the team at the lottery, but it will be the face of Scott instead. Lakers fans around the world will be sweating out the results on that day as the Lakers are almost guaranteed to move either up or down and hopefully it’s the former and not the latter.
