Lakers News: D’Angelo Russell Reveals Best Advice He Has Received In Rookie Season
Lakers News: D’angelo Russell, Byron Scott Split Play Calling So Far

Through the first 14 games of the 2015-16 NBA season, D’Angelo Russell has already experienced highs and lows with the Los Angeles Lakers. With the Lakers struggling and other rookies having the opportunities to play major minutes, some have been critical of the point guard.

While Russell is still learning to impact the game, he has appeared more comfortable on the court. In the past five games, Russell is averaging 12.0 points, 5.4 rebounds and 2.8 assists in 28.8 minutes.

With a couple days off before facing the Portland Trail Blazers, Russell was asked about the best advice he has been given to manage the long season, via LakersNation.com reporter Serena Winters:

After being selected second overall at the 2015 NBA Draft, there will naturally be high expectations. However, the point guard position is the most difficult to learn, but Russell has shown flashes in pick-and-roll situations.

Despite the criticisms that have surrounded him, Russell appears focused on improving each and every game. Although the Lakers were down by 30 points in the fourth quarter against the Golden State Warriors, the rookie point guard expressed a desire to play through his mistakes in these type of situations. However, head coach Byron Scott wanted to see others play like Ryan Kelly and Marcelo Huertas.

With Russell looking to earn more playing time, it will not get easier for the Lakers as nine of their next 10 games are on the road. As the team is struggling with finding an identity, playing on the road may give them an opportunity to come together and be competitive.
