Now with the 2013 NBA Finals over, the basketball world will have its eyes on the drama in LA and how the Lakers will handle Dwight Howard’s free agency.
Howard had a difficult first season in LA as he tried to recover from back surgery and surprisingly started on opening night. However, he didn’t look like the same Howard who brought the Magic to the Finals on his own and didn’t have the same explosion on both the offensive and defensive end.

Howard spoke to Janis Carr of the OC Register in a lengthy interview about how his rehab is coming along:
Dwight: “I’m pressing the reset button, trying to get back to the way I played before. He’s great. He pushes you mentally and physically.”

Howard is reportedly working out with famed trainer Idan Ravin and doing 90-minute workouts in an effort to get his back stronger for next season.
Since the Lakers season ended, Howard has been mum about what he’s thinking about before free agency starts, but it’s clear that he’s going to take his time.
However, in the same interview with Carr, Howard addressed what his mindset is as free agency begins in little over a week:
“This is my chance to choose my own destiny instead of letting someone else choose it. So I’m going to really sit down and think about what is best for me as far as basketball and what is going to make me happy.”
“There’s nothing one team can say to sway me away from another team. It’s just going to be what’s best for me basketball-wise. That’s how I’m going to approach it.”
It’s been reported that Howard and Chris Paul have discussed the possibility of playing together, and rumors of Howard being traded to the Clippers grabbed the headlines last week.
Regardless, it sounds like Howard is going to take his time and meet with teams individually before making his decision, and it will be a long summer in Lakerland.
