Dwight Howard

With the Houston Rockets in Los Angeles to play the Clippers tonight, all the media coverage has centered on Dwight Howard. This marks the first time Howard has been in the city since he signed with the Rockets and he spoke to reporters about Lakers fans.

According to Howard, he realizes that the Lakers have the most fans in the world, but they don’t know what really happened behind closed doors last season via ESPN LA:

“Fans are very passionate about their team, and unfortunately the Lakers have the most fans in the world. So, I think it’s kind of a tough thing to let go and the way the season was last year, a lot of people don’t know what really happened on the court or in the locker room. They just know what was being fed to them, and they made their decision based off that.”

Last season, there were rumors of an altercation between Kobe Bryant and Howard. While both have disputed that rumor, Bryant has mentioned numerous times that they had different styles of leading the team and it simply wasn’t going to work out.

While Bryant is very demanding of his teammates, it has led to five championships and seven Finals appearances. On the other hand, Howard has a less serious approach to winning and as a result, hasn’t won a championship in his ten year career.

With Howard deciding to sign with the Rockets, it was best for all parties involved to go their separate ways. Even if Howard re-signed, these problems he had with Kobe and head coach Mike D’Antoni weren’t going to disappear anytime soon. While Lakers fans have voiced their displeasure about the center, the organization will be in the hunt for another All-Star as soon as this off-season.
