Lakers News: Dwight Howard to Have MRI on Right Shoulder

Things just keep getter worse for the Lakers as star center Dwight Howard will undergo an MRI for his sore right shoulder.

After the Lakers’ embarrassing loss to the Denver Nuggets Sunday night, Howard spoke to the reporters and he talked about his shoulder pain. Howard initially injured the shoulder in the Lakers’ game versus the Clippers, but he re-aggravated it when the Lakers hosted the Nuggets.

Arash Markazi of ESPN L.A. tweeted that Howard will undergo an MRI for the injury so that doctors will be able to see how they should deal with the setback moving forward.

Fortunately for the Lakers, the pain in Howard’s shoulder Sunday night was not as bad as it was on Friday, meaning the injury doesn’t sound too serious. Nevertheless, the Lakers must not risk anything with Howard and they cannot afford to lose him for an extended period of time. The Lakers are struggling already and they cannot improve without Howard on the court.

Howard is coming off a back injury which he suffered last season and, based on his play, it seems as though Howard has not fully recovered. Even though Howard grabbed an impressive number of rebounds against the Nuggets (26), he does not look like the athlete he once was.  Hopefully this shoulder injury does not impede his recovery process and he will be able to reach 100 percent once again.
