For years, Lakers superstar Kobe Bryant has used the nickname, “Black Mamba.” Kobe has used this nickname so much over the course of his NBA career that it has become synonymous with the five-time NBA champion.

Unfortunately for Kobe, the nickname is on the verge of being trademarked by Floyd Mayweather’s uncle, Roger.
According to TMZ, Mayweather has filed a trademark application:
There’s a major sports star who’s trying to get the rights to call himself the “Black Mamba” — only it’s not Kobe Bryant, it’s Floyd Mayweather’s uncle … who’s been using the nickname for decades.
TMZ Sports has learned … Roger Mayweather — a former boxing champ turned trainer — filed a trademark application with the U.S.P.T.O. hoping to win the rights to the mark, “Roger ‘Black Mamba’ Mayweather.”
Apparently, there’s no evidence that Kobe has trademarked “Black Mamba” in the past according to TMZ:
But get this … when researching the trademark claims on “Black Mamba,” we couldn’t find any evidence showing Kobe has ever tried to trademark the name for himself.
With that being said, Mayweather may have a good chance of getting the trademark.
It’ll be interesting to see if Kobe’s camp tries to make a case to get the trademark before Mayweather locks it down.
