The results are in for the 2014-15 NBA Rookie of the Year and the winner of the regular-season award comes as no surprise. The number one overall pick Andrew Wiggins of the Minnesota Timberwolves has been dubbed this season’s best rookie.

Although Wiggins earning Rookie of the Year honors didn’t surprise anyone after an impressive year with the Timberwolves, Jordan Clarkson of the Los Angeles Lakers earned a fair share of his own votes as one of the best rookies in the league.

According to Bleacher Report’s Howard Beck, Clarkson finished seventh in the voting:

After playing behind veterans Ronnie Price and Jeremy Lin to start the season, Clarkson finally got his opportunity to shine with head coach Byron Scott turning to the rookie to be his starting floor general.

In 38 games as a starter during the 2014-15 campaign, Clarkson averaged an impressive 15.8 points, 5.0 assists and 4.2 rebounds per game. Clarkson quickly became a legitimate force to be reckoned with once Coach Scott let him loose as he gave some of the best point guards in a the league a run for their money on both ends of the floor.

Clarkson may have a non-guaranteed contract heading into his second season with the Lakers, but the team intends to keep him and feel the Missouri product as a potentially bright future in Los Angeles.
