When he first got hired as the head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers, not many believed Mike D’Antoni could find success with this franchise. However, fast forward about a year and D’Antoni is finally getting the recognition he deserves.
With no Kobe Bryant and having Steve Nash for only a few games this season, D’Antoni has led the Lakers to an 8-8 record and has them competitive in the Western Conference. The new and returning Lakers players are playing well under D’Antoni and there seems to be great chemistry between the two parties.
Point guard Jordan Farmar spoke to the Los Angeles Times about D’Antoni and how the coach has done so far this season.
“He’s done great,” Jordan Farmar said of D’Antoni. “He’s bringing us all together as a team and making us believe in each other and the system and how we’re going to win. I think he’s managing personalities really well and the team on the court too.
“Even little things like time-out plays he draws. He does a really good job of reading what the defense is doing and we take advantage of it.”
Farmar has played well in his second stint with the Lakers and it is clear that the coach gives him the freedom to run the offense. D’Antoni needs an athletic guard like Farmar in his system and the team as a whole is beginning to shine under his guidance.
