Lakers News: Kendall Marshall Signs Two-Year Deal With Lakers

With the Los Angeles Lakers being ravaged by injuries over the course of the 2013-14 NBA season, the team had no choice but to bring in a free agent point guard after Kobe Bryant was ruled out for six weeks.

Former lottery pick Kendall Marshall turned out to be the point guard the Lakers chose to go with. According to Hoopsworld.com, Marshall has signed a multi-year deal:

The Los Angeles Lakers, who have been hit by a number of injuries to their backcourt, signed guard Kendall Marshall to a multi-year contract, the team announced Friday.

Despite the fact that Marshall has inked a deal that will carry over into next season, the North Carolina product’s contract will be non-guaranteed. Marshall’s deal will be very similar if not exactly the same as rookie forward Elias Harris who was waived by the team in late November.

With that being said, Marshall will have to prove his worth while filling in for Jordan Farmar, Steve Blake and Steve Nash. Xavier Henry will start at point guard for the Lakers while Marshall will likely come off the bench in a reserve role until Mike D’Antoni feels comfortable making him the starter.

Fortunately, the Lakers may get Farmar back in the lineup sooner than expected. Farmar might be able to return against the Miami Heat on Christmas Day if he continues to make progress in his rehab from a torn hamstring.
