Lakers News: Kobe Bryant Doesn’t Plan On Sitting Out Season

For the first time since fracturing the lateral tibial plateau in his left knee, Kobe Bryant spoke to the media before his team faced the Miami Heat on Christmas Day. With this being the first time in his career where he hasn’t played on Christmas, Bryant has had a difficult time just watching, but is determined to return as soon as possible.

Since sustaining the injury, many have suggested that the five-time champion should sit out this season so the Lakers can have a high lottery pick in anticipation of this year’s draft class. However, Bryant doesn’t plan on sitting out this season according to Lakers Nation reporter Serena Winters:

While the return timetable is at least six weeks, Bryant says he owes it to the Lakers organization to return as soon as possible. With all the negativity surrounding this latest setback, Bryant says that his spirits are fine and feels more locked in than ever to prove his doubters wrong.

Although some fans want Bryant to sit out the season, it’s no surprise that he intends on returning this season. His mindset has always been to win championships and this season is no different despite the much lower expectations.

While no one wanted to see Bryant go down with another injury, this will give him time to further strengthen his Achilles and measure what he can do on the court. In only six games this season, Bryant averaged 13.8 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 6.3 assists.
