ESPN announced a partnership with Kobe Bryant and his studio, Granity Studios, on ‘Detail,’ a show that’s written, produced and hosted by the Los Angeles Lakers legend. The 15-episode series is due to premiere in March and air throughout the second half of the season, concluding in the NBA Finals.
Bryant will provide analysis and insights as if he played in a game that’s being featured. The focus will be on aiding both players and coaches. “Studying game film is how the best get better. It’s the university for a master’s degree in basketball,” Bryant said in a released statement.
“I learned how to study film from the best coaches of all time – Phil Jackson and Tex Winter. Detail provides an opportunity to teach that skill to the next generation on large platform with ESPN.”
Since retiring after 20 illustrious years with the Lakers, Bryant has focused on carrying forward his knowledge through storytelling by way of film.
‘Detail’ marks a third project between Bryant’s Granity Studios and ESPN. Their first was a limited run of ‘Canvas City,’ which aired during the 2016-17 season. This season, the network has featured short films from Bryant’s MuseCage Basketball Network.
With this passion, Bryant has explained on multiple occasions he doesn’t fill as though there’s a void since walking away from the sport that consumed much of his life. And with that, Bryant has maintained he doesn’t have interest in holding an official role with the Lakers.
