According to Dave McMenamin of ESPN LA, the five-time champion has been working very hard throughout the rehab process, and could even resume basketball activity sooner than most expected.

This is amazing news for the Lakers. As it is widely assumed that Kobe might be out until the year 2014 as a result of surgery on his Achilles, this report gives optimism that Bryant could return by the end of the year and could perhaps even have a puncher’s chance at opening night in October.
Of course, the competitor in Kobe leads us to believe that he’s going to do everything in his will to not only come back early, but a better player than what he was before.
