Late in the loss to the Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday night, Kobe Bryant went up for a potential game-tying jump shot and came down awkwardly on his ankle. Bryant remained on the floor for a few minutes before getting up and walking off the court under his own power. Bryant did head back to the locker room before the game ended, however, most likely to get treatment by team trainer Gary Vitti.

Now, according to Lakers beat reporter Mike Bresnahan of the L.A. Times, it seems that Kobe will be getting X-rays to check the structural integrity of the injured left ankle.

Obviously we won’t know the status on Bryant’s ankle until later on
, but for now the team will be hoping it doesn’t swell up too much when the Lakers fly to Indiana for their Friday matchup with the Pacers.

*Update: Lakers state Kobe’s ankle is severely sprained and he’s “out indefinitely.”
