Lakers News: L.A. Acquires Roy Hibbert From Indiana Pacers

After missing out on their frontcourt targets, the Los Angeles Lakers sought other ways to get themselves a quality big man to play alongside their young roster and help in their rebuild. Instead of looking at the thin free agent market, the team decided to find their player through a trade.

According to the official Indiana Pacers Twitter account, they have agreed to trade Roy Hibbert to the Lakers in exchange for a future second round draft pick:

The Indiana Pacers announced Thursday they have acquired a future Second Round draft pick from the L.A. Lakers in exchange for Roy Hibbert.

Hibbert’s contract fits right into the Lakers’ cap space and is set to expire next year. Once it is off the books, the Lakers will again have plenty of room to bring in free agents next summer. Should he prove to be a valuable piece for the Lakers, it’s not out of the question the team ends up re-signing him when his contract expires. In his potential one year with the team, he figures to provide the rim protection the Lakers needed to establish their frontcourt defense.

In his seven-year career, Hibbert has averaged 11.1 points, 6.8 rebounds and 1.9 blocks.
