pauAccording to Sam Amico of Fox Sports Ohio, the Lakers have been fielding calls for trade proposals for Lakers power forward Pau Gasol. The future of Gasol has been a topic of discussion since the Lakers were swept by the San Antonio Spurs in the past postseason, so this information should come as no surprise with the NBA Draft set to occur on Thursday.

Here’s what Amico’s report had to say;

With power forward Pau Gasol on the trading block, the Los Angeles Lakers are another team that has been fielding plenty of calls leading up to the draft. It should be noted the Cavs are said to have no interest in a Gasol deal.

The Lakers management has made it known that they aren’t exactly in agreement with paying Gasol the $19.3 million that he is due next season, especially with new luxury tax penalties being implemented. Because of that, the Lakers could be open to receiving younger talent via the draft or from a team that would have a desire to make Gasol a focal point of their franchise.

Gasol made it known this past season that he didn’t appreciate taking a lesser role with the Lakers. The transition from Mike Brown to Mike D’Antoni would prove to be the toughest thing he would have to adjust to as a Laker. Gasol reverted to being a fourth option at times, and even came off the bench at one point, something he had never done at any point in his career.

It is going to be interesting to see what happens this offseason with the Lakers. Clearly they have some decisions to make, and Gasol will be at the core of them.
