Lakers News: Magic Johnson Wants Lakers To Respond To Challenge

MagicJohnson

On Tuesday morning, Laker legend Magic Johnson discussed numerous topics, including the low expectations for the Lakers heading into this season with ESPN LA 710’s Mark Willard and Mychal Thompson.

According to Magic, this is the first time where no one is talking about the Lakers. With an All-Star leaving Los Angeles and the uncertainty surrounding Kobe’s Achilles, the city is buzzing about the Clippers and their championship expectations with the arrival of Doc Rivers.

With so much negativity surrounding the Lakers, Magic sent a message to the current players on how he would approach the situation via ESPN LA 710:

Heading into the season, the players seem determined to prove the media wrong and it all begins with the mindset Kobe Bryant has taken as the leader. He has seen the off-season predictions and has used it to not only fuel his recovery, but empower his teammates.

For the entire Lakers team, they all have something to prove this season. Every player has been written off for being too old or not reaching their potential.

In turn, the low expectations have brought this year’s team closer together and it will be much needed if they want to make the playoffs. While making the playoffs will be dependent on Kobe’s return, this current group played fairly well during the preseason and will look to exceed expectations this season.
