Lakers News: Metta World Peace Presents New Mental Health Campaign

Metta World PeaceIn the last few seasons, Metta World Peace has taken a leading role in the fight for awareness when it comes to mental health. After immediately thanking his therapist upon winning Game 7 of the 2010 NBA Finals over the Boston Celtics, World Peace has gone to great lengths to try and raise funds and awareness for various mental health charities.

Now, according to Eric Pincus of the L.A. Times, it seems that World Peace is at it yet again.

Starting Monday, World Peace and the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health will partner in May for Mental Health Awareness Month.

World Peace’s “Talk It Out” campaign will be on display on Metropolitan Transportation Authority shelters, depots, buses and trains in both English and Spanish.

“It’s unnecessary stress if you’re holding things in,” World Peace said. “It can just bring unnecessary stress to your heart and to your mind. When you can release it and talk about it, you feel better, and that’s how it should be with anything.”

World Peace, an often controversial figure in the NBA, has done a superb job of bringing the mental health fight to the front of the public spectrum. His ability to never shy away from the situation or talking about things that some might deem uncomfortable has given him a great advantage.

Back on the court, World Peace and the Lakers just finished up their season, and will be looking towards the off-season and the various changes it is sure to bring with it.
