According to ESPNLA’s Dave McMenamin:
“Metta World Peace’s elbow to the Denver Nuggets’ Kenneth Faried in the Los Angeles Lakers’ game on Monday has been upgraded to a flagrant 2 foul, according to NBA spokesman Tim Frank.”
World Peace and Faried were each going for a rebound in the third quarter of Monday’s game, and it seems as if Metta’s elbow made contact with Faried’s head. Although no foul was called at the time, the league assessed that it was deserving of a flagrant 2 foul.
Metta was confused about the league’s decision, and even didn’t know what reporters were talking about when they asked him questions about the flagrant before yesterday’s game. World Peace did have the following to say:
Metta World Peace on Faried foul: “I do have a teeth mark in my elbow. I can tell you that. I don’t know what happened.”

When a player reaches six flagrant foul points, they are handed a one-game suspension. With the Lakers continuing their climb to the eighth spot in the standings, the team cannot afford to be without Dwight Howard or Metta World Peace.
