Lakers News: Mike Brown Releases Statement About Firing

The Los Angeles Lakers fired head coach Mike Brown earlier this morning, despite coaching just five games in the 2012-13 season. The Lakers currently stand at 1-4 and are not living up to expectations.

Brown coached the Lakers for two seasons, starting in 2011-12 in a 66-game campaign. Over the two seasons,  Brown went 42-29 and brought the Lakers to the second round of the 2012 Playoffs.

Brown released a statement about the situation and thanked the Lakers for the opportunity.

“I have great respect for the Buss family and the Lakers’ storied tradition and I thank them for the opportunity they afforded me. I have a deep appreciation for the coaches and players that I worked with this past year and I wish the organization nothing but success as they move forward.”

The Lakers haven’t announced a permanent replacement for Brown, but will have assistant coach Bernie Bickerstaff as their coach for tonight’s game against the Warriors.
