Lakers News: Nick Young’s Contract With Lakers Is For Two Years

hi-res-6981502_crop_northLakers fans are pretty excited about the team’s signing of Nick Young. The forecast for the Lakers for signing free agents, especially with the departure of Dwight Howard, was looking gloom given the limited financial considerations that the team could offer free agents.

Therefore, fans welcomed the signing of Young as he will bring athleticism, youth and perimeter shooting. Everyone thought that Young signed a one-year deal with his hometown team, but according to Eric Pincus of the Los Angeles Times, Young can wear the purple and gold jersey for longer:

“The guard/forward’s contract, signed Thursday, is a two-year, $2.3-million deal at the veteran’s minimum with a player option in the second season.

Initially reported as a one-year deal, Young will earn $1,106,942 for the 2013/14 season and $1,227,985 if he decides to stay a second.”

Therefore, the Lakers will now have three players’ contracts on their books in the 2014 offseason if Young does indeed to opt-in to his second year of his contract with the Lakers. Steve Nash and Robert Sacre are the other two players on the books, totaling approximately $11.8 million of the Lakers’ salary per Eric Pincus.

Young averaged 10.6 points and 2.2 rebounds per game while shooting 35.7 percent from the three-point line last season with the Philadelphia 76ers. With the amnestying of Metta World Peace last week, Young is expected to play the small forward position this season for the Lakers. This past weekend, Young showed off his game as he dominated a Drew League game.
