Lakers News: Pau Gasol Wants to Continue Career With Lakers

Pau Gasol 3The Los Angeles Lakers will have a lot of questions to answer in the summer of 2014, and one of them will include whether or not to bring back Pau Gasol.

This is Gasol’s final season of his contract and there is a chance this is the last time he plays for the team. The Lakers have a plethora of cap space to work with next off season and in order to keep the future bright, the front office may have to part ways with the center.

However, Gasol spoke to the Los Angeles Times and talked about his desire to remain on the team past this season.

“It’s nice to be here in the last year of my contract,” Gasol said. “I’d love to continue to play with the Lakers [next year]. We’ve been through so much together. Mostly amazing moments and some hard moments too.

“It’s like a relationship. If you’re still together, it shows improved strength and consistency and how solid the relationship is. Hopefully we’ll see if we can extend it.”

Gasol was an integral part in the Lakers’ two championships in 2009 and 2010, being the second option right behind Kobe Bryant. However, over the past few years Gasol’s game has slipped and his production level has dropped. Even though Gasol wants to stay in Los Angeles, the team will first have to see how effective the Spaniard can still be.
