Lakers News: Pau Gasol Would Like More Touches in the Paint

The Los Angeles Lakers are currently riding a three-game losing streak, with their most recent defeat coming last night to the Indiana Pacers. In that game, Pau Gasol recorded ten assists and zero turnovers, but he is still not happy with the way the offense is working for him. Janis Carr of OCRegister.com writes that Gasol would like to see more touches down low and would like to take advantage of his size and skill.

“I would like to get a little more inside, myself,” Gasol told reporters after the game. “‘I always like to have different looks and be able to attack from different angles. The second half, I didn’t have one chance to attack from the post, so I was more of a facilitator.

“I got two jumpers, open, that I missed, and that was all the opportunities that I had.”

The Lakers’ offense has struggled mightily this season and sometimes relies too much on isolation play. Los Angeles has the luxury of two-seven footers in its front-court, but sometimes those players are left on the perimeter.

Andrew Bynum and Pau Gasol are hard to stop when going, but they have not had a lot of opportunities this season to dominate. The offense should go through them more often for the Lakers to get out of their slump and snap their losing streak.

Pau Gasol, in particular, is the most skilled big man in the NBA and his footwear is unparalleled for a player over six foot ten. The Lakers won two championships with Gasol in the lineup, but he cannot be effective when the ball is not in his hands.
