NBA News: Paul George Says He Will Sign Extension With Pacers

Paul GeorgeEverything the Lakers have done this offseason has been done with the belief that the 2014 offseason will bring some new star talent to elevate the team back to prominence. Unfortunately for the Lakers, one of the youngest and brightest, won’t be joining the purple and gold.

In an interview with the Indianapolis Star, George said that he will sign an extension with the Indiana Pacers, most likely before the start of this season:

“(A long-term contract) is going to get done. There will be a deal signed and sealed on the table before the season. We’re (George and Pacers management) on the same page.

This comes as a blow for the Lakers as both Carmelo Anthony and LeBron James have stated their intentions to remain with their current teams. Neither of those players, however, has signed an extension with their respective teams as George intends to do with the Pacers.

For the Pacers, they are now locked in for the future with Paul George and center Roy Hibbert locked in to long term contracts. They should be Eastern Conference championship contenders for numerous years to come with that young core.

For the Lakers, it becomes even more unclear what they will be able to do next offseason with all of their cap space. Options appear to be dwindling. But if we know anything, the Lakers always find a way.
