Lakers News: Phil Jackson, ‘I’m Not Going To Coach Again’

phil jacksonOnce Mike Brown was fired five games into the 2012-13 NBA season, 11-time NBA champion Phil Jackson was at the top of the list of potential candidates to take over as the new head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers.

Although Jackson expressed an interest in returning for a third stint with the Lakers, the team ultimately chose to go with Mike D’Antoni formerly of the New York Knicks and Phoenix Suns. The decision sent shock waves throughout Los Angeles and the rest of the league considering that Jackson appeared ready to get back to business as the leader on the sidelines for the Lakers.

In an interview with Fox Sports One, Jackson reiterated that he does not want to coach again, Fox Sports Live Twitter:

Jackson also mentions his fiance, Lakers President Jeanie Buss, and how upset she was with the process and not wanting to put her through that again.

It comes as no surprise at this point in time that Jackson does not want to return to the bench in Los Angeles or anywhere else in the NBA. Jackson has flirted with the idea of accepting another role with an NBA organization over the last few years, but nothing has come to fruition or is in the works at this point in time.

Although coaching no longer appears to be in the cards for arguably the greatest NBA coach of all-time, Jackson may get back to work in some capacity in the near future. It remains to be seen what that job title may be, but Jackson continues to be intrigued at the prospect of taking on a new challenge in the NBA.
