Kobe’s signature shoes, the Kobe 8 System, finished second in league-wide sales behind LeBron James this past year. Bryant’s sales exceeded $50 million, while James hit the $300 million mark. According to Forbes, however, Kobe’s “shoe sales in the U.S. were down in 2012, but he is the NBA’s biggest star in China and his Nike sneakers sell briskly in Asia.” Lakers Nation breaks down reasons as to why the sales may have been so down; check it out here.
Metta World Peace’s book titled “ Metta’s Bedtime Stories” was released today. The book was written by World Peace and co-authored by Heddrick McBride and is comprised of five stories. Illustrations were from HH-Pax.
The Phoenix Suns have grabbed at the Lakers staff this time, hiring former Lakers right-hand man Ronnie Lester as an NBA scout. Lester worked with the Lakers for 20 years, 10 of those being under Mitch Kupchak. Lester was let go by the Lakers in 2011 ahead of the NBA lockout.
The San Antonio Spurs swept the Grizzlies to claim this year’s Western Conference Finals. Despite the Heat looking like they would reclaim the title again this 2012-2013 season, the Spurs have had a few people wondering if they could snatch the title. Lakers Nation asked readers who will win the 2012-2013 NBA Finals, and a whopping 68% of you said the Spurs. San Antonio has swept two of their three playoff series at this point, one being the Lakers.
Jerry West turned 75 today and Lakers Nation wants to make sure to extend a very happy birthday! West was drafted with the second overall pick in the 1960 NBA Draft by the Lakers out of the University of West Virgina and played in L.A. for 14 seasons. He is also the iconic figure that comprises the NBA logo.
