Today marked a sad day in Lakerland as the Lakers decided to exercise their amnesty option on World Peace. The Los Angeles Lakers chose to officially waive the forward. Metta was obtained in 2009 and has quickly become a fan favorite. He exercised the player option of his contract with the team for $7.7 million, but the Lakers’ front office decided to part ways to save money as their luxury tax was already the highest in the league for the 2012-13 season. Metta has been in the NBA for 14 years and averaged 12.4 points and 5.0 rebounds in 75 games last season.
In honor of the forward, check out LN’s montage of the top Metta World Peace moments. Fans are absolutely going to miss World Peace, but I bet one thing is for sure; they won’t stop following him on Twitter like some other former Lakers players. Keep entertaining MWP!
Speaking of Dwight Howard, more news has come out about his departure. Apparently, Howard wasn’t comfortable with the Lakers not providing him with a timetable that would indicate when Kobe Bryant would move on. He wasn’t too keen on living in the Kobe era shadow. You could see throughout the season that Howard and Bryant were unhappy with one another, and now that Dwight moved on, it’s evident they weren’t pals. Kobe famously unfollowed Dwight on Twitter just moments after Howard’s announcement to Houston. Just remember, until Kobe Bryant decides he’s done, the Lakers will always be his team. That’s what happens when you are the best player in the league (yep, I said it).
The Lakers have officially announced their 2013 NBA Summer League roster and schedule. Second-round draft pick forward Ryan Kelly is listed on the roster despite his foot injury. Many believed he would take this summer to recover from foot surgery, so this is an interesting move. The summer league head coach will be Dan D’Antoni, with assistant coaches Larry Lewis, Mark Madsen, and Clay Moser. Game 1 is tomorrow against Cleveland at 5:00pm.
Are you fresh…. to death?! Stay geared up throughout the summer and make all your friends jealous with the newest Laker merchandise. Make sure you also check out Lakers Nation’s store where we have cooked up some style worthy goodies of our own.
