At this point in time, Dwight appears to have one foot out the door with the Houston Rockets being the favorite to land the perennial All-Star. Dwight clearly wasn’t impressed with the Lakers organization or the treatment from the fans during his short time in Los Angeles and seems to be leaning toward signing with another team as a result.
Although Dwight has yet to put pen to paper and sign a new contract with the Lakers or another team, the consensus is the Lakers will need a contingency plan with the writing on the wall in Los Angeles being that Dwight is done with this team.
With 11-time NBA champion head coach Phil Jackson set to play a role with this team moving forward, the Zen Master had some choice words for Dwight as he heads into free agency on Monday. Jackson let it be known that he wants Dwight to remain in Los Angeles and expects to see the veteran center get on board.
It remains to be seen whether or not Jackson’s comments on Sunday will sway Dwight’s decision one way or another, but it has more than likely helped the Lakers position has they try and out duel the Rockets and Dallas Mavericks.
