Lakers News: Shawne Williams’ 10-Day Contract Expired On Sunday

On Sunday, Shawne Williams’ 10-day contract with the Los Angeles Lakers expired. While the Lakers can sign him to another 10-day contract, they will likely keep that roster spot open just in case a trade is made on Thursday’s trade deadline.

According to LA Times’ Eric Pincus, Williams signed for $69,998 and $52,017 will count against the team’s salary cap and luxury tax:

“The 6-foot-9 forward signed with the Lakers on Feb. 6 for $69,998. Because Williams is on a minimum contract, the NBA will reimburse the Lakers $17,981 with $52,017 of Williams’ salary counting against the team’s salary cap and luxury tax.”

During the off-season, Williams was signed to a non-guaranteed contract and eventually made the team as the starting power forward on opening day. Before his contract became guaranteed on January 7, the Lakers waived him and Williams eventually was re-signed after a brief stint with the D-Fenders.

With the Lakers rumored to move Jordan Hill to the Brooklyn Nets in exchange for a disabled player exception, it appears the team may sign Williams for the remainder of the season. If the Lakers decide not to do so, they can only offer him one more 10-day contract according to NBA rules.
