Lakers News: Steve Nash Believes Lakers Are “Number One” Destination

Yesterday, Steve Nash tried out for Inter Milan in the Guinness International Champions Cup starting next week and there were some fans who seriously thought Nash was leaving the Lakers.

Before his tryout in New York as part of the promotional event leading up to the Cup, Nash sat down with Grantland to discuss numerous topics including what he personally said to Dwight Howard at the meeting and the adjustments he’s had to make playing alongside Kobe Bryant.

Everyone is understandably tired of reading about Dwight Howard, but the message Steve Nash delivered shows how the experience of being a Laker is incomparable:

“When you look back on the career and you can say you played for the Lakers for eight or 10 years, that’s an incredible opportunity. If I were 27, in the prime of my career, there wouldn’t even be another consideration. It would be the number one place you could play.”

Even though Nash is now a Laker, it’s a very high compliment for the franchise considering how he played with the Phoenix Suns for most of his career and there were a lot of emotional battles. With the opportunity to finally play for the Lakers, Steve Nash worked extremely hard to make adjustments to his game for the betterment of the team:

“I knew it wasn’t gonna be the same. I felt like I was going to try something new, and that I was going to adapt — and to accept that, and embrace it.”

Heading into this season, Nash should be fully-recovered from his injuries and be able to help the Lakers exceed people’s expectations of the team. It’s going to be an uphill battle, but Nash’s optimistism as a leader will be much needed in times of uncertainty.

Despite only playing in 50 games this past season, Steve Nash rushed back from injuries and tried his best to help the team. He averaged 12.7 points and 6.7 assists in his first season as a Laker.
