One of the biggest question marks heading into the off-season for the Los Angeles Lakers is the immediate future of Pau Gasol. The Spaniard will become an unrestricted free agent for the first time in his career and is looking forward to testing the open market.
Although Gasol hasn’t ruled out a return to the Lakers, many believe he’ll likely pursue a third ring by signing with a legitimate title contender. Despite Gasol’s desire to play for a contender, the Lakers will reportedly make an attempt to re-sign him according to Mark Medina of the L.A. Daily News:
Mitch Kupchak told me "there is great interest in re-signing Pau"

The future remains uncertain for the Lakers to say the least. The team will have a high pick in the upcoming 2014 NBA Draft as well as a considerable amount of cap space at their disposal, but it is unclear at this point in time if GM Mitch Kupchak and company intend on being major players in free agency this summer.

Gasol will be arguably one of the biggest names on the open market this summer along with Luol Deng and Kyle Lowry. If Carmelo Anthony decides to opt-out of his deal with the New York Knicks, the superstar will jump to the top of the list of desirable free agents.
As of right now, Gasol will be one of the most sought after players available come July with the Lakers seemingly not sold on the prospect of letting him sign elsewhere.
