This is Mike D’Antoni’s first move in an attempt to fill out his coaching staff for next season. Lewis spent the past two seasons on the D-Fenders coaching staff, the Lakers’ Development League affiliate, according to Mark Medina.

A three-year collegiate basketball player from Morehouse College, Lewis turned pro when he was selected by the Albany Patroons of the CBA in 1992. A 6’7” forward, Lewis played internationally in Argentina (2011), Spain (2001-2011), Japan (1996- 2001), Cyprus (1996), Great Britain (1993) and the Dominican Republic (1992). Lewis also played for Team USA in the Pan American Games in 1995, where he won a silver medal.

D’Antoni plans to hire two more full time assistants and one more developmental coach after the majority of his staff from the 2012-13 season left. Eddie Jordan accepted the Rutgers’ head coaching job after the playoffs were over for the Lakers.

D’Antoni told both Bernie Bickerstaff and Chuck Person they would not return to the coaching staff next season. Steve Clifford became the head coach of the Charlotte Bobcats. Phil Handy joined former Lakers head coach Mike Brown’s staff in Cleveland, and Darvin Ham joined Mike Budenholzer’s coaching staff in Atlanta.

Mike’s brother, Dan, remains the lone assistant from last season that will stay for next season.
