Lakers News: Team Unlikely To Retain Manny Harris As Guards Return

Despite some conflicting reports on Monday, the trio of injured point guards — Steve Blake, Jordan Farmar and Steve Nash —  are all expected back in the coming days.  With that, Mark Medina of the Los Angeles Daily News reports the Los Angeles Lakers will not retain Manny Harris after his second 10-day contract expires on Tuesday.

As the Lakers became decimated by injuries, Harris was called up from the team’s D-League affiliate on Jan. 16, in time for him to make his Laker debut at the storied Boston Garden.  Still dealing with injuries to the backcourt, Harris was signed to a second 10-day contract on Jan. 26.

Per NBA rules, had the Lakers wished to keep Harris on their roster, they would have been required to sign him for the remainder of the season. While appearing in eight games with the Lakers, Harris averaged 6.8 points per game in 19.9 minutes of action. Harris’ best performance in his brief stint in the NBA came in a Sunday matinee game against the New York Knicks, where he scored 18 points on 6-of-9 shooting in 19 minutes.
