The Los Angeles Lakers have decided to use the amnesty clause on veteran small forward Metta World Peace according to Kevin Ding of the O.C. Register via Twitter:
Sweet a guy as he is, @MettaWorldPeace will be waived via amnesty by Lakers to save about $30 million, barring some late change.

World Peace chose to exercise his player option on the final year of his deal with the team. The veteran forward had been rumored to be the player the team would use the amnesty clause on along with Pau Gasol. Once World Peace had exercised the option, the writing was apparently on the wall with the team choosing to part ways with the one-time NBA champion rather than retaining him for the last year of his deal.
World Peace will hit the waiver wire and will become available to teams with cap space before being available to the highest bidder as an unrestricted free agent.
