Former lottery pick Xavier Henry was invited to the Los Angeles Lakers training camp last season and impressed the coaching staff enough to convince the team to sign him.

In his first season with the Lakers, Henry showed enough to earn another contract with the team. Henry signed a one-year deal with the Lakers this summer, but it appears that he might not be ready for training camp, according to head coach Byron Scott via Mark Medina of the L.A. Daily News:

In a wide-ranging interview with this newspaper, Lakers coach Byron Scott said forward Xavier Henry “might be limited in training camp” because of a surgically repaired left wrist and right knee that have not fully healed.

“I haven’t seen him do much on the court,” Scott said. “It’s going to be close on if he’s ready for camp.”

Henry played in only 43 games for the Lakers last season due to injuries. The former Kansas standout underwent surgery in the off-season to address these injuries and apparently the versatile 23-year-old could miss a bit more time.

As one of five players from last year’s roster that re-signed with the team this summer, Henry is considered to be a vital piece to the puzzle in Los Angeles. Henry will likely play multiple positions next season with Scott using him at shooting guard and small forward.

Last season, Henry averaged a career-high 10.0 points and 2.7 rebounds per game while shooting 41.7 percent from the floor.
