Lakers Not Expected To Sign Another Player After Williams Release

Before the deadline on Jan. 10, the The Los Angeles Lakers decided to waive forward Shawne Williams in order to avoid having his deal guaranteed for the rest of the season.

The move to waive one of the four players with non-guaranteed contracts wasn’t all that surprising considering the team’s desire to save money. Although there’s been talk of the team bringing in Hedo Turkoglu, it appears they have no intention of filling the open roster spot unless another player goes down with an injury according to Mike Bresnahan of the L.A. Times via Twitter:


With the Lakers dealing with injuries to Kobe Bryant (knee), Steve Nash (back), Steve Blake (elbow), Jordan Farmar (hamstring) and Xavier Henry (knee), the team is extremely thin in the backcourt with only Jodie Meeks, Nick Young and Kendall Marshall shouldering the load.

Although the team appears to be sticking by the stance that they won’t be signing another player unless another injury occurs, it wouldn’t be all that surprising to see the Lakers bring in a player like Turkoglu for the insurance in the backcourt.
