Lakers Pre-Draft Workout Video: Nevada’s Caleb Martin

Nevada forward Caleb Martin was among the six 2018 NBA Draft prospects the Los Angeles Lakers hosted for a pre-draft workout. It provided Martin with an opportunity to reunite with Florida guard and former AAU teammate Jalen Hudson.

They, and the other attendees, were put through a workout that focused heavily on defense. “That’s one thing they keyed on right when we came in the door,” Martin said.

“We all got to this level because we know we can put the ball in the basket. It’s another thing to separate yourself by playing defense.”

Martin began his collegiate career at NC State, then after two seasons transferred to Nevada. He averaged 18.9 points, 5.4 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game with the Wolf Pack.

Martin’s ability to score isn’t questioned, which is a factor in his desire to prove to be capable of doing more. “Just being a great teammate,” said Martin of one of his goals in the NBA.

“I’m kind of known as a little bit of a scorer, so I can bring that attribute to the team. One thing I really want to work on is my defense to make sure I can show people I can defend really well. Just bring my intensity to whatever the team needs.”

Martin anticipates he will play shooting guard and some small forward in the league. “I’ve just got to bulk up some more so I can guard some of those bigger guys,” he said.

While Martin declared for the 2018 NBA Draft, he did not hire an agent and therefore remains eligible to return
