Rumor season is in full swing with the NBA trade deadline less than two weeks away. Teams around the league have until Feb. 23 to make deals. Although the Los Angeles Lakers aren’t expected to make any moves before the trade deadline, an interesting rumor surfaced on Monday about the team’s future involving Russell Westbrook and Anthony Davis.

According to Brian Boyles of Bleacher Report, Davis and Westbrook ending up with the Lakers in the future could be a possibility:

Thad Foucher of the Wasserman Media Group, the same agency that represents Russell Westbrook, is Davis’ agent. A source close to Davis’ agent floated the possibility that the end game could find the two uniting in Los Angeles with the talent-starved Lakers. Those kind of rumors are the ones that expand into panic when a team flails like the Pelicans have in the last two seasons.

Obviously, with Boyles saying this would be an “end game” for both players there’s no telling when something like this would or could come to fruition. Westbrook is currently under contract with the Oklahoma City Thunder through the 2017-18 NBA season with a player option worth $30.6 million.

Davis, however, signed a five-year, $145 million contract extension with the New Orleans Pelicans back in July of 2015. Putting together a trade package to match salary and intrigue New Orleans to send their face of the franchise to Los Angeles might be a bit of a stretch.

Although this potential star pairing of Westbrook and Davis may seem farfetched at this point, anything can happen in the years to come, especially if a front office shake-up is expected in Los Angeles.
