Lakers Rumors: Lakers Have Reached Out To Lamar Odom

The Los Angeles Lakers will be initiating their Plan B as a result of Friday’s news that Dwight Howard agreed to sign with the Houston Rockets instead of the Lakers.

With a massive payroll even without Dwight Howard on the books, the Lakers are very limited financially of what they can offer to fill in the holes of their roster for next season.

According to ESPNLA’s Ramona Shelburne, the Lakers have interest in their former Sixth Man of the Year, Lamar Odom. In fact, the team has reportedly already reached out to Odom.

Lamar Odom spent seven seasons with the Lakers, where he averaged 13.8 points and 9.5 rebounds per game and won two championships. Things went sour for both sides when Odom was a part of a trade package along with Pau Gasol for Chris Paul. After that deal was famously nixed by the league, Odom was traded to the Dallas Mavericks.

He was eventually bought out by the Mavericks and joined the Clippers last season where he continued to struggle to put up the numbers that he did with the Lakers. Last season with the Clippers, Odom posted 4.0 points and 5.9 rebounds per game.

While those numbers aren’t too impressive, the Lakers only have the mini-mid level exception or the veteran minimum to offer free agents. Lamar Odom would fit the financial criteria but it hasn’t been determined whether or not the interest is mutual.
