Lakers Rumors & News Recap: Big City Benefits

One of the benefits of being in a big city like Los Angeles is the impact the region can have on fans, players and franchises. Being from L.A., born and raised, I know a thing or two about keeping up with image; it is important. A way to make sure you put on a good face is to be the best in new technology, media, and other attention grabbers.

Good thing the Lakers are #1 in NBA competition in social media. Again.

The Los Angeles Lakers continue to pave the way for NBA teams in social media with more Twitter followers and Facebook likes than any other team in the league. I am betting most of you reading this post use one, or both, of these forms of media, proving just a bit how important they are.

Still not convinced?

Then maybe you were like me, during the Olympics, frustrated upon checking my Twitter account and finding results out before I had watched myself. And yet, I couldn’t stop checking my account! Because that is just it; news travels fast and efficiently on social media. The Lakers get it.

These numbers really don’t come as much of a surprise to many with the Lakers arguably the most popular team in the league. Along with always putting a championship-caliber team on the floor every single year, the Lakers organization also makes an effort to reach out to the fans with social media and always stays on top of any changes in technology. Ryan Ward of Lakers Nation breaks down the other benefits Lakers fans have gotten from social media outlets in his post today. Not only, for the Twitter-verse, he includes a list of the Lakers roster Twitter accounts, just in case you were not following them before.

Los Angeles has also taken a shine to Dwight Howard, as we know, but the newly acquired Lakers center has been making sure he takes in all of this big city as much as he can. Like his appearance last night at the MTV Video Music Awards. The All-Star walked on stage with his Lakers jersey in hand to talk with host Kevin Hart. Loving the LA pride, Dwight.

Just in case you missed it, the first Lakers commercial with Time Warner Cable was released today. It’s beginning to look a lot like NBA season.
